The English summary of our website

You have your own particular style. That is why we offer you the choice of many different models, details and finishes, over 10.000 fabrics and more than 150 linings. We are at your disposal for advice: the suit will be made to fit with your current wardrobe, the frequency with which you intend to wear it, the season, and of course the (work) environment you will be wearing it in. The choice of tailoring style and fabric determine the suit's price. We offer fabrics ranging from 190 to 570 grams per yard, and yarns ranging from Super 80 to Super 200. Weight and weave of the fabric determine its shine, its tendency to crinkle and its longevity. Our offer includes wool, linen, silk and cotton. All new tailor suits are made from natural fabrics, have padded lapels, real buttonholes and horn buttons. Choose from single- or double-breasted and determine the number of buttons for your jacket and waistcoat. We then determine the rest of the model, the number of pockets, pleats, splits, interior pockets and lining. For the trouser we choose between a wide- and a slim fit, with one, two or no front pleats. We then determine the style of pocket, and whether you wish to wear braces, a belt or metal side straps.

Measuring up

No man is average. Not in sizes or comportment, nor in taste, style, habits or wardrobe. All our advice and recommendations are based on this principle. One does not "buy" a bespoke suit; one "has it fitted". This is an important difference, because the result depends on a proper fit - the combination of accurate measurement and tailoring craftsmanship. A well-fitted suit is clearly recognisable: a perfect fit to the neck and shoulders, the backbone and hip - a good overall balance. Through our extensive experience since 1997, the fitting thousands of suits and our close cooperation with renowned tailors, the taking of accurate measurements has become our specialty. Our suits are produced by a number of carefully selected tailor's ateliers, each with their specific signature style and silhouette. We have close ties with a German workshop that produces fine quality suits for us, but you may also prefer to choose for the finesse and nonchalance of our Italian atelier Clad la Sartoria. For lovers of the 'Cut to the bone' tradition of the Savile Row tailors, we offer the services of our English tailors Norton & Townsend. We also work with a famous suit making company in Poland, who maintain a level of craftsmanship and skill rarely seen in our trade today.
Some examples of our suits

The first (introductory) appointment lasts for roughly an hour and a half. We take over 70 measurements, determine your natural comportment and discuss how fitted you wish your suit to be. Together, we discuss the balance between comfort and aesthetics. Naturally, we also advise you on the choice of fabrics, trimmings, tailoring style and fit. We keep you informed of progress throughout the production process, and after six weeks we call you for your first fitting appointment. After making the final adjustments in our atelier in Utrecht, the second fitting follows a week later. Naturally, we keep in touch to discuss any required alterations afterwards, for example in the case of weight loss. The choice of fabric and tailoring style determine the price of your suit or shirt. New tailor offers tailor-made suits ranging in price from 650 to 2000 euros and made-to-measure shirts from 100 euros. Our shop in Utrecht also stocks a wide selection of ready-to-fit shirts and a sophisticated range of ties, bow ties, cufflinks, braces and belts. Our tailor-made suits and shirts are a compliment to your self. We cordially invite you to visit us.

Style and comfort

You have probably known you are not average, and therefore unique, for quite some time. In all our years of experience we have never come across a single customer with "average" sizes, who stood completely straight or was totally symmetrical. Consequently, we have never seen a factory-made suit fit anyone properly. Most Dutch men wear a suit that is too large, because a specific part of their body (shoulders, waist or legs) requires it. This means that in many cases the suit sags or hangs from the body. New tailor specialises in taking measurements and making patterns. This is where the making of a tailor-made suit starts: your personal measurements and comportment. The next step is to select a tailoring workshop that fits your taste and requirements. English tailors are renowned for their impeccable, 'cut to the bone' suits, whereas Italian suit makers are famous for their supple fits and fashionable finishing. To complement the selection we also use a renowned Polish atelier that offers a looser, less restrictive style. Our own New Tailor brand suits are made to English standards by an atelier in Germany; an excellent suit with an unsurpassed price-quality ratio.

Norton & Townsend bespoke Tailoring

The search for the ultimate English tailor-made suit led us to Norton & Townsend, a renowned company of travelling tailors based in London. Renowned throughout the City, the popularity of their impeccable style and quality is now set to spread throughout the Netherlands. The English suit is 'cut to the bone', in the tradition of Savile Row: higher arm insets and heavier innards. The result is a suit that one can really 'feel'.

New Tailor Hand Tailoring

A full traditional craftsmanship and perfectionist pride is renowned. Completely hand made suits with strong but supple innards, cut with a looser fit for extra comfort or a very slim fit for a modern look.

Tailor-made shirts

At New Tailor, we believe that a shirt's shoulder width should be determined by the wearer's shoulder measurement - not be dictated by one's collar size. Every gentleman deserves a properly made shirt. Select the collar and cuff style you prefer; breast pockets, buttons and monograms are optional. We have a broad range of fabrics to choose from; our favourite supplier Thomas Mason has a wide selection of the finest cloth made in Italy - from easy care to Sea Island cotton.

Accessories

Alongside our tailor-made suits and shirts, we have a large offer of other sophisticated gentleman's accessories. An extensive range of ready-to-fit shirts - made using the same methods and standards as our made-to-measure product - are probably the shop's most striking feature. Furthermore, we stock a large selection of Italian, Swiss, English and French hand-made ties; including a range of extra long seven-fold ties for our most discerning clients. The New Tailor is also renowned for the large selection of cufflinks, bow ties and braces. Belts are made to length for you at no extra charge.
